Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum) is a playful, dependable native that deer actually ignore. These nodding, soft-pink clusters bring movement to your garden from June through August and are a favorite for local hummingbirds.

All perennials are sold in 1-quart pots with established root systems. Learn more about our growing standards here.

If you’re looking for a plant that handles our unpredictable Ohio soil without complaint, this is it. We love Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum) because it’s a "tough-as-nails" perennial that manages to look delicate. It has these unique, bent stems that make the flower heads look like they’re bowing. It’s perfect for the edges of a path or a sunny rock garden. In my trials, it’s one of the few things the deer consistently pass over, and it handles our dry spells and heavy clay with ease.
