Dense Blazing Star (Liatris spicata) is a staple for a reason. Unlike many other prairie plants, this one actually loves our damp, heavy soil. It produces these fuzzy purple spikes that are a favorite "landing pad" for butterflies. It’s the perfect plant for adding height to a small space because it grows straight up and stays narrow. I’ve found it’s one of the easiest natives to integrate into a traditional garden bed while still getting all the ecological benefits.
