Wild Blue Indigo (Baptisia australis) is a legacy plant for the patient gardener. Wild Blue Indigo takes a year or two to settle in, but once those deep roots are established, it is virtually indestructible. It handles Ohio droughts and heavy winds without flopping over. The indigo-purple spikes are reminiscent of Lupine, but the plant itself is much sturdier. After the blooms fade, the blue-green foliage and charcoal seed pods provide interest well into the fall.
